ABERDEEN -- Police say they have found a body in Aberdeen and are trying to determine if it is a woman who has been missing for nearly three weeks.

Aberdeen Police Chief Henry Randle tells WTVA-TV that the body was found Friday about 10:45 a.m. just off of Peacock Alley in Aberdeen.

Randle stopped short of saying that the body is that of 26-year old Teresa Ewing of Aberdeen, who has been missing for some 18 days.

"We're going to send the body down to Jackson and make sure it's a confirmed match as to what we think. Actually we're not confirming anything just yet," said Randle.

Randle says it will take a positive identification and DNA to confirm that it is Ewing.

Randle says he expects to know more about the missing body on Saturday and that a person of interest was in custody, but had not been charged.

Residents have been watching and searching with authorities and are coming to grips with what could be the discovery of Teresa Ewing's body.

"I think it's sad. It is, it's very, very sad," said Shirley Polk of Aberdeen.
