STARKVILLE -- Now is the time for the Starkville Academy football team.

With time quickly running out in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class AAA playoff race, the Volunteers will play their final non-conference game of the season Friday night.

Starkville Academy (3-4) will step completely out of the MAIS ranks to face Mississippi High School Activities Association member French Camp Academy (3-4).

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in French Camp.

"We knew at the beginning of the season, we would have a difficult stretch to end the year," Starkville Academy coach Jeff Terrill said. "This is the point where you want some of the young players to step up and play like veterans."

Starkville Academy will play three straight challenging road games -- at French Camp, at Heritage Academy and at Jackson Academy.

Heritage Academy is 6-1 overall, while Jackson Academy is 7-0 on the field but actually 5-2 thanks to two early-season forfeits.

The Volunteers will have to be at their best and pull some upsets to make a late-season playoff push.

In its last outing, Starkville Academy dropped a 40-0 decision to Madison-Ridgeland Academy.

It was Starkville Academy's first home loss of the season.

The Volunteers finished with 63 yards but were down some key players due to injury.

"We're close to turning the corner on offense," Terrill said.

French Camp is 3-1 in Class 1A, Region 3 play with three straight wins.
