JACKSON -- Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley is proposing a 60-day waiver on utility deposits for victims of domestic abuse.
Presley, who represents Mississippi's Northern District on the three-member PSC, said the measure is intended to provide financial relief that would make it easier to get out of dangerous situations.
The measure is modeled after similar measures in Louisiana and Texas. It would provide a 60-day waiver of the initial utility deposit at a new location.
The Commercial Appeal reports the Public Service Commission, at its meeting in Jackson Tuesday, adopted a schedule for Presley's proposal that calls for public comment through Nov. 15 and a public hearing on Dec. 10. That timetable would allow the Commission to implement the measure by the end of the year.
