First United Methodist Church in Starkville will host the eighth annual Christmas Handworks Bazaar Friday, Nov. 1.
The event will be in the church’s Christian Life Center at 200 W. Lampkin St. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be almost 40 booths featuring vendors from across Mississippi with their handmade products for sale. There is no admission fee; the bazaar benefits Habitat for Humanity.
“This event kicks off Christmas shopping for many people,” said Suzanne Dressel, chair of the bazaar. “Our merchants offer shoppers everything from jewelry, soaps and Christmas decor to picture frames and much more.” Entertainment throughout the day will help everyone get into the spirit of Christmas, Dressel added.
Among the most popular items each year are the homemade frozen casseroles and baked goods. “These are typically the first items to sell out, so if anyone wants to help save time in the kitchen during the holidays they better get there early, advised the organizer.
Coffee and snacks are available for shoppers throughout the day.
“We also have the Sweet Spirit Sandwich Shoppe, serving lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for those shoppers who come in during their lunch break or work up an appetite shopping,” noted Dressel. Proceeds from casserole sales, baked goods and booth registration fees benefit Habitat for Humanity.
“The Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity is a Christian mission that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope,” said Alan Tucker, board president for the organization. “We are dedicated to eliminating substandard housing through the construction of new homes and providing a no-interest mortgage to low income homeowners who need a better place to live and are willing to work hard to make a better life for their families.”
