A Mississippi Highway Patrolman and a pregnant woman were among those involved in a fiery head-on collision on Highway 45 North Tuesday night.
The accident happened about 7 p.m. when an SUV attempted to make a left turn onto Mike Parra Road and collided with the MHP cruiser in the southbound lane, according to a release issued by the highway patrol.
The cruiser, driven by trooper Brad Edmondson, left the highway and stopped on the west side of the roadway before catching on fire. Edmondson was briefly trapped inside the vehicle but managed to escape. Law enforcement was on scene within minutes and volunteer firefighters put out the fire. Edmondson was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle where he was treated and released.
A passenger in the SUV, Jonathan Loyd, took to social media and blamed Edmondson for the incident, saying, “He ruined my truck.”
According to his Facebook post, Loyd was in the Mercury Mountaineer with two other people, Taylor Loyd and Derek Gray. Taylor Loyd is pregnant. All three occupants of the Mountaineer were also transported to BMH-GT where they were treated and released.
The accident is still under investigation by MHP.
