Dozens of historians and antique dealers are in Columbus this weekend for the 48th annual decorative arts and preservation forum.
The event kicked off with a wine and cheese antiques show Thursday night and will continue today and Saturday with historical lectures. The antiques will be set up in the Rosenzweig Arts Center throughout the weekend. Columbus-Lowndes Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Nancy Carpenter said the weekend is packed with history and is a perfect opportunity for shopping as well.
“This year’s theme is Andrew Jackson’s Military Road from Nashville to New Orleans,” Carpenter said. “We have everything from fine sterling silver to Old Paris porcelain to oriental rugs and very fine jewelry but at affordable prices. I think there are some wonderful dealers here and some great finds for Christmas or a special occasion.”
JoAnn Hatchcock is an antiques dealer out of Germantown, Tenn., who specializes in antique jewelry and pocket watches. Hatchcock said while the show is small, there are plenty of antiques for someone to find a treasured piece.
“It’s a small show but it’s a very pretty show,” she said. “I think they could find something and enjoy it.”
