The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science will open its doors this weekend to prospective students and local citizens during its annual Fall Gala Weekend.
The weekend includes tours for young students, a 5K fun run and dinner. All events are open to the public.
Admissions director Rick Smith encouraged students who may be interested in attending the school to take a tour this weekend.
"This is a wonderful chance for students and their families to get a real sense of what we do here," Smith said in a media release. "Not only will the kids get a chance to meet our faculty and staff and tour our facilities, they will also get to meet and interact with current MSMS students."
Preview day began at noon today and all Mississippi sophomores, as well as younger students, are invited. On Saturday, the fun run will be held on Demonstration Field behind the Mississippi University for Women campus.
The weekend wraps up with the gala celebration dinner Saturday night at Shattuck Lawn on the MUW campus. A silent auction will be held before the dinner and the MSMS Blue Notes will perform.
"This gala is a wonderful opportunity to remind alumni, friends, and current supporters of MSMS about the tremendous talent being cultivated every day on the campus of MSMS and why it is important to continue supporting the MSMS Foundation," said MSMS Executive Director Dr. Germain McConnell in the release. "This is also an opportunity to let those unfamiliar with the school know why their financial contributions to the MSMS Foundation are important. Last year we were able to raise $25,000 in donations; our goal is to surpass that number this year to at least $35,000. The funds we are able to generate from this event will help us continue the tradition of success for which this institution is so well known."
Tickets to the gala may be purchased by visiting msmsfoundation.com or by contacting Katie Carter at [email protected]
