Mississippi University for Women and East Mississippi Community College are joining forces in the world of culinary arts.
Students earning their associates degree in hotel and restaurant management at EMCC will now be able to “seamlessly transfer” to MUW to obtain a degree in culinary arts, the institutions announced Friday.
In addition, students who are currently enrolled at EMCC will now have unfettered access to some of the same choices given to MUW students, according to a press release issued by the university.
“Currently enrolled EMCC students will have access to The W’s ‘guest chefs’ program that brings in leading culinary experts for demonstrations and there will be additional professional development activities for EMCC faculty members,” said Scott Tollison, Dean of College and Professional Studies.
MUW President Dr. Jim Borsig said Friday’s announcement further strengthened the partnership between The W and EMCC.
“We have a strong partnership with our EMCC colleagues, and we’re delighted today to strengthen the pathway for students in our state to earn a bachelor’s degree,” Borsig said in a media release.
Dr. Rick Young, President of EMCC, agreed with Borsig and said the partnership’s real winners are the students.
“This opportunity is a win-win for our all our students,” Young said. “EMCC’s hotel and restaurant management students will be able to go on to the next level. And our Lion Hills Center provides a live setting for hands-on instruction. That gives both groups of students an edge.”
He added, “We look forward to this partnership and hope it’s the first of many with our colleagues at Mississippi University for Women.”
