ITTA BENA — Itta Bena Acting Police Chief Ted Washington says a Mississippi Valley State University student has been arrested in the shooting of a Leflore County High School student Tuesday night during a parking lot brawl after a basketball game.
Washington tells the Greenwood Commonwealth that 19-year-old Tyler Course of Greenwood is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon on school property. Course is being held without bond pending an initial court appearance.
Washington says the brawl broke out as people were heading home after the Greenwood-Leflore County basketball game.
Washington says a 17-year-old was shot. He says the teenager is expected to recover.
Washington says an investigation is continuing.
It was unclear whether Washington has an attorney.
