A Columbus woman is behind bars after she allegedly fatally stabbed her boyfriend Friday morning.
Chaddy Mae Brooks, 28, was taken into custody by deputies with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department on Friday after she allegedly stabbed her live-in boyfriend, 37-year-old Danielle Gore, in the neck with a kitchen knife. The incident occurred at the couple’s Cypress Park apartment on South Lehmberg Road.
Law enforcement responded to the apartment complex after receiving a 911 call of a victim stabbed in the neck. When officers and paramedics arrived on scene, they discovered Gore lying on the kitchen floor. Attempts to revive Gore were unsuccessful. Brooks was escorted by deputies out of the home just after 11:30 a.m. She was covered in blood and silent as she walked to the waiting police cruiser. Witnesses on scene said Brooks’ two young children were in the home at the time of the incident.
Floyd Lovelace, who identified himself as Brooks’ stepfather, said Brooks and Gore had been in a relationship for the past two years. Lovelace was on the scene of the stabbing to take custody of Brooks’ two sons.
“Somebody called her mother and so I came down here to get the kids,” he said.
Brooks does not have a prior criminal history in Lowndes County.
Gore’s official cause of death is not yet being released pending an autopsy.
The investigation is ongoing.
