The runways always inspire. Last week I spent time with my favorite fashion-forward mouse at the Magic Kingdom, where she is always at home on the runway in sequins, everything pink and sparkly. Of course, for Minnie Mouse, being trendy comes naturally as you might spot her twirling on a float, working the high heels on Main Street U.S.A., or blowing kisses to her paparazzi as I wave wildly trying to attract her attention toward my camera, successfully. Yes, Minnie and I caused quite the stir at Walt Disney World.
She even whispered a few fashion trends in my ear right off the runways, with a little help from InStyle magazine. Minnie was all giddy about the comeback of lady-like full skirts with a voluminous silhouette, and tea-length, of course. In fact, our mouse-of-the-moment was donning one herself as we posed together inside the Big Top Circus. She’s obsessed with Christian Dior.
As we skipped alongside each other down the brick paths created by Walt himself, Minnie stopped to sign a few autographs while telling me she is in love with iridescence, mesh and white blouses, so when shopping this season, add a bit of edge to your wardrobe with that holographic jacket if you dare or perhaps an iridescent clutch. According to Minnie, you will notice mesh accents everywhere, from the details in the sleeve of a dress to layering over a neon camisole. And the classic white button-down shirt gets reinvented with modern asymmetrical lines.
With the athleticism trend on the runways of Lacoste, John Galliano and Victoria Beckham, we are certain to see more baseball caps, tennis-inspired dresses and even varsity jackets. Minnie wears Mickey’s, of course.
A few more fabulous fashion forecasts from my new BFF and fashionista: “matchy-matchy” suits, whether solid or patterns, black and white everywhere, geometric prints like we saw at Carolina Herrera and Fendi, and Minnie’s favorites — pastels and luxe sweatshirts. Who doesn’t enjoy a fresh, crisp splash of mint green, lilac or yellow? And oversized sweatshirts are no longer considered slouchy when you throw on some leggings and heels.
It’s no secret I love Minnie, and it was a blast hanging out with her through several wardrobe changes in the wonderful world of Disney, a place truly magical for children of all ages, including me.
