MILLPORT, Ala. – Millport Mayor Icie Wriley returned to town Monday with a new distinction.
The first-term mayor and former councilwoman was recently named vice president of the West Alabama Mayors Association, a non-profit organization that aims to improve effectiveness of local government in the Western portion of the state.
Wriley, who became the town’s first African-American mayor in 2012, succeeded two-term mayor Tim Fields, who helped steer the town out of bankruptcy. Wriley has stated recently that the town’s financial profile continues to improve and that the remaining payments to debtors have been met.
