Starkville Police Department charged 24-year-old Justin Yhonquea with two counts of auto burglary after he led officers on a brief foot chase Wednesday.
Officers were dispatched to the Brookville Garden housing area Wednesday after Yhonquea, who was previously banned from the area, was reported as trespassing, according to a SPD release. He was also wanted by the police for questioning in connection to recent auto burglaries. Yhonquea has previous arrests for auto burglary and is on parole with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, the release states.
Yhonquea attempted to evade officers on foot, the release states, but he was quickly caught. After questioning at SPD, he was arrested, charged with auto burglary and transported to the Oktibbeha County Jail.
Yhonquea was scheduled to appear before Starkville Municipal Court Judge Rodney favor yesterday, but it was unknown if bond was set.
The Dispatch requested his last known address, but SPD did not provide that information by 5 p.m. Thursday.
In 2013, 41 of Starkville Municipal Court’s 159 felony cases involved theft, while it handled 85 misdemeanor theft incidents.
