The Lowndes County Board of Supervisors appointed a local sales manager to the Columbus-Lowndes Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors today in a 4-0 vote.
Newell Paper Company sales manager Brock Reynolds will fill out the unexpired term of Bart Wise as the county's business/industry appointee. Wise resigned Feb. 26 after three years on the tourism board. He served as the board's treasurer for most of his tenure. The term ends in February 2016.
The business/industry appointee for both the county and the Columbus City Council is recommended by the Golden-Triangle Development LINK. Reynolds has been with Newell Paper Company for four years and is a long-time county resident.
The 33-year-old said he was looking forward to the opportunity of serving on the board.
"I'm just excited to help the community, the city of Columbus and Lowndes County," Reynolds said.
Reynolds' appointment is the second county supervisors have had to make in the past month and a half. Lester King, a former partner of S&K Door in Starkville, was appointed to the CVB board as an at-large member Feb. 4 after incumbent Leon Ellis opted not to seek re-appointment.
The nine-seat board has had at least one empty chair since last June. The city-county appointed seat was vacated then when Columbus Mayor Robert Smith and Lowndes County Board President Harry Sanders removed Harvey Myrick. Since then, Smith and Sanders have exchanged names of people they'd like to consider appointing but have not come to a consensus.
Supervisor Bill Brigham was absent from Friday's board meeting.
