CORINTH — Two Alcorn County regional jail inmates are being returned to the state penitentiary in Parchman after attempting to smuggle drugs and contraband into the Corinth facility.
Romon Moss, 26, was arrested Wednesday and charged with four counts of introducing drugs to a state prison and one count of introducing contraband to a prison. Bond was set at $20,000.
Roventay Peden, 31, was arrested March 13 and charged with introducing drugs into a state prison. Bond was set at $5,000.
Narcotics Officer Darrell Hopkins said Moss attempted to bring 3 grams of methamphetamine, 18 pain pills, Spice and a cellphone into the jail at the end of his work day. The cellphone resulted in the contraband charge.
Hopkins also said Peden tried to bring in a half-pound of marijuana and tried to throw it when he fled from corrections officers during a search as he entered the prison.
Peden is serving a seven-year sentence out of Neshoba County for cocaine possession, according to the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Moss is serving a couple of six-year sentences out of Lafayette County for burglary of an unoccupied dwelling and receiving stolen property.
