The case of a former Columbus Municipal School District employee charged with enticement of a child may soon be heading to a Lowndes County grand jury.
Michael Jackson, former public information officer and choral director at Columbus Middle School and Columbus High School, was arrested Feb. 2 by the Columbus Police Department and charged with one count enticement of a child to meet for lustful purposes.
The 30-year-old was fired from the district after his arrest, according to interim superintendent Edna McGill. She would not comment further.
Jackson’s lawyer, Chris Kitchens of Ripley, said his client’s case may go before the grand jury in April.
When Jackson was arrested in February, Police Chief Selvain McQueen said the former choir director “had sent text messages to a minor in an effort to seduce or solicit for purpose of engaging in sexually explicit conduct.”
Kitchens said investigators confiscated Jackson’s computers but his client is “confident there is nothing on there that will be of evidentiary value.”
CPD investigators did not return calls seeking comment on Jackson’s case.
