A bomb threat was called into Columbus Municipal School District this morning.
An unidentified male called the CMSD bus shop at 7:15 this morning saying, “the middle school will blow up at 8 a.m.,” according to Deputy Superintendent Craig Shannon.
Shannon said school buses were rerouted to Cook Elementary School. Students who were already at the school were also transported to Cook, Shannon said.
The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene at 175 Hwy. 373, as well as the FBI and the Mississippi Highway Patrol. As of press time this morning, a bomb dog was searching the exterior and interior of the property, Shannon said. He expected students to return to class by 10 a.m.
Today’s bomb threat was the fourth at CMS this school year. It is the second threat in two weeks.
Shannon said law enforcement has a suspect and he is confident the suspect will be apprehended soon.
“I can assure parents of this district that this will cease very soon,” Shannon said. “We have a very strong suspect. He will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
