A Columbus man was killed Tuesday night after he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a vehicle.
Timothy Alan Mayatt, 29, of Columbus, died from massive head and chest trauma when he was thrown his motorcycle and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle on Highway 50, according to Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant.
Merchant said Mayatt and a friend were riding their motorcycles on Highway 50 near Southern Pipe when the friend observed Mayatt loose control of his bike.
“His friend said he ran off the side of the road and pulled it back up, wobbled back and forth, struck a concrete culvert and that sent him airborne,” Merchant said.
Mayatt, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. He was pronounced dead on arrival, Merchant said.
Stevens Funeral Home in Meridian is handling the arrangements.
