The Bukka White Blue Bluff Festival, formerly known as the Blue Bluff Festival, will be Oct.16-17 at Blue Bluff Landing in Aberdeen, on the banks of the Tenn Tom Waterway. For the second year, this free festival will feature an all-blues program, hosting some of the finest artists in Mississippi. The new Bukka White marker, which brings Aberdeen recognition as a part of the Mississippi Blues Trail, will be unveiled Friday at 4 p.m. in downtown Aberdeen.
After the marker dedication Friday, live music begins at 5:30 p.m. with Big Joe Shelton, followed by T-Model Ford with Eric Deaton and Kenny Brown. Festival activities begin at 9 a.m. Saturday. Arts, crafts and a variety of food vendors will be available. Children”s activities include learning about desert animals with Bob Tarter.
Saturday”s performers, begining at noon, include Bill Brooks as Elvis, Cadillac John and Bill Abel, Terry “Harmonica” Bean, The Electric Mudd, Big T and the Family and, at 7:30 p.m., Burnside Exploration.
Tenn-Tom Waterway boaters are invited to tie up at the festival grounds, turning off the Waterway at the Blue Bluff Landing sign, just north of Aberdeen Lock. Enjoy free dockage or enjoy the music from the anchorage.
The festival is sponsored in part by the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce, the city of Aberdeen and many area commercial supporters. This Mississippi heritage event is also partially funded by grants from the Mississippi Arts Commission, the Aberdeen Visitor”s Bureau and CREATE.
