Mississippi Senate Pro Tempore Terry Brown said he’s on the road to recovery after a weekend stay in the hospital.
Brown, who was diagnosed with cancer in October, was admitted to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle on Friday after experiencing an abnormal heart rhythm.
“We’re doing a real strong bout of chemo and it got my heart out of rhythm,” Brown said. “It had gotten back in rhythm by the time we got there but they just kept me to check me out.”
He was released from the hospital Sunday.
Brown said there is not a known end date for his latest chemotherapy treatments, but he said he is feeling energized and optimistic.
“I’m up and around,” he said Tuesday morning. “I’m working today.”
Brown, 63, is a lifelong resident of Columbus.
He ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor in 1999 and was elected President Pro Tempore of the Senate in 2012. In that capacity, he serves as presiding officer of the 52-member chamber when the lieutenant governor is away. Brown has served in the senate since 2003 and was a state representative from 1988 to 2000.
He represents the 17th District, which is located entirely within Lowndes County.
