A 25-year-old Starkville man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of Tyrell Deshon Gillespie on Wednesday.
Anthony Lamar Williams, of 1200 Louisville St., Apartment C1, has been charged with murder. He was also charged with disorderly conduct Thursday. He was processed and transported to Oktibbeha County Jail, according to a Starkville Police Department press release.
Devonte Tyjuan Lucious, 21, of 382 Kincade Rd., was also arrested and charged with accessory after the fact for his alleged actions following the homicide.
A $500,000 bond was set for Williams. A $10,000 bond was set for Lucious.
Police arrested Williams after he allegedly shot Gillespie, 27, multiple times in the parking lot of the Louisville Street apartment complex about 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt pronounced Gillespie dead at the scene.
SPD did not release a motive with the shooting.
Numerous law enforcement agencies convened on the Louisville Street apartment complex after an emergency call was placed. Residents and onlookers gathered near the scene said officers drew their weapons when they arrived, and officials were seen still wearing flak jackets and carrying assault rifles after the crime scene was secured.
Starkville School District officials locked down nearby Emerson Family School in response to the shooting.
SPD previously identified the 1200 Louisville St. location as the future home of a police substation in an effort to deter criminal activity. In the release, SPD called the location an area of concern in relation to crime.
“The nature of this incident is certainly not representative for any areas of our community, therefore we believe that this is an isolated incident,” the release stated.
Anyone with additional information in this case should contact SPD at (662) 323-4131.
