The Mississippi Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission on Tuesday approved Sunday liquor and wine sales in Columbus, effective immediately, and extended the time allowed for weekday sales by 30 minutes.
Now on-premises alcohol sales are allowed on Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to midnight.
The Columbus City Council Sept. 2 voted to send a petition to the ABC requesting Columbus be allowed to extend its on-premises weekday alcohol sales and to sell wine and liquor on Sundays.
The ABC issued preliminary approval of the new sale hours Oct. 6 and signed the hours into law Tuesday.
The city”s ordinance previously allowed for the sale of alcohol only from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
