Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle and the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation have made donations to two organizations to help Mississippians affected by recent spring storms, especially those living in Tupelo, Columbus and Louisville.
The Mississippi Hospital Association Care Fund and the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund each received $4,717. Baptist Golden Triangle employees initially donated $4,717 following the April 28 storms, and the amount was matched by the hospital's corporate foundation.
In Columbus June 30 to receive the donations were Tim Moore, president of the Mississippi Hospital Association, Curtis Upton, MHA human resources director and Perneatha Evans, coordinator of the Columbus office of the North Mississippi Chapter of the American Red Cross. The chapter includes Lowndes and Lee counties.
Six employees at Baptist Golden Triangle whose property suffered storm damage applied for disaster relief funds from the MHA Care Fund before the late May deadline, receiving $2,540 to be distributed among them based on need, according to Baptist Golden Triangle Human Resources Director Bob McCallister.
The Red Cross funds will also be used to help local families affected by disaster, said Evans,
The North Mississippi Chapter offered assistance to Louisville and Winston County following the April tornadoes, even though Winston County is covered by another Red Cross Chapter, Evans said. "We're all one big Red Cross. We help anyone in need," she added.
Baptist Golden Triangle Administrator Paul Cade said helping those in need is nothing new for his employees.
"Baptist employees have a long and proud tradition of stepping forward in times of disaster to help those in need. We take the mission of our Baptist system very seriously, which is the three-fold ministry of Christ -- healing, preaching and teaching,'" Cade said. "I am very proud of our employees for giving to help those hit hardest by the storms," he added.
