A meth lab has been discovered in Lowndes County and authorities are searching for the persons responsible.
Agents with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department Narcotic’s Unit responded to 4233 Highway 12 East Monday in reference to suspicious items, according to a press release issued by the department.
Upon investigation, the agents found the suspicious items to be toxic pieces of a methamphetamine lab, the release said.
According to Commander Archie Williams the meth lab was not active at the time it was discovered. Williams said agents believe the lab has been inactive for approximately one month. The lab was discovered in a storage shed behind a home about a mile east of the intersection of Highway 12 and Military Road.
“It’s still hazardous waste we had to dispose of but it’s probably been a month or better since it was actually used,” he said.
Williams said his unit has identified potential suspects and the investigation is ongoing.
