Mississippi University for Women is partnering with a community college to offer a bachelor’s degree to culinary students.
The university on Thursday announced Two Plus Two, a culinary arts program that partners with Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson.
MUW President Dr. Jim Borsig and Co-Lin President Dr. Ronnie Nettles signed a memorandum agreement Thursday.
“This agreement will provide additional opportunities for students at Copiah-Lincoln who wish to pursue four-year studies in culinary arts at The W,” Dr. Borsig said in a release. “We look forward to providing a seamless transition to their studies with us, and we thank Dr. Nettles for his leadership in creating this partnership.”
Co-Lin currently offers culinary arts programs on its Wesson and Natchez campuses.
MUW’s Culinary Arts Institute was established in 1996 and offers concentrations in food journalism, food art, entrepreneurship, nutrition and wellness, and Culinology.
According to the release, students entering the new program will earn a bachelor’s degree in technology and professional studies with a concentration in culinary arts. Career options include positions as executive chefs, small business owners, caterers, food stylists and food photographers, among others.
The program will be available for the 2014-2015 school year.
