The Hyatt Place in Columbus will open by mid-November.
Sunny Sethi, the hotel’s developer, said furniture is being installed this week inside the 70,000 square foot structure, which stands four stories tall just off Highway 45 North, south of Belk.
The hotel’s beginnings date back to 2010.
“We are glad to finally complete this project,” Sethi said. “Although it has taken quite longer than planned, the final product will be a very impressive hotel that will be a place Columbus and Lowndes County can be proud of having in the community.”
Sethi, whose family-owned business based in Canton owns 15 hotels in Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama, said the Hyatt Place will create 15 to 25 jobs immediately, while 10 to 15 more will follow.
It will be the second Hyatt Place in Mississippi. There will be 99 rooms, a public restaurant and bar and a Starbucks coffee shop inside, according to Sethi.
Speaking of Starbucks — all signs are pointing toward Columbus’ first one opening by the end of September.
Earlier this year, Mike Rozier, a Carroll County-based developer, purchased a vacant lot in the 1900 block of Highway 45 North, right between Replays and the C-Spire building.
A 6,000 square foot structure is nearly complete being built on the spot and it will house a Starbucks (with a drive-thru), a Kay Jewelers and another business.
Rozier, when reached Wednesday, told The Dispatch he anticipates the Starbucks opening by the end of this month.
Kenny Wiegel, building official with the city, said his office conducted some routine inspections on the building Wednesday.
Rozier did not say when the Kay Jewelers might open. He said the building’s third spot does not have a tenant in place yet.
Lastly, Ferguson Enterprises, the nation’s largest wholesale distributor of plumbing supplies, has opened a location in west Starkville.
According to the company’s corporate website, Ferguson carries the “most-recognized brands, cutting edge technology & inventory management solutions” for plumbing projects.
Jeffrey Duckworth, the branch manager in Starkville, said while most of the store’s business is done with contractors, he welcomes walk-in clients who might be undertaking a home project.
Ferguson is based in Virginia. There is a store in every state. The one in Starkville, which employees three people in full-time positions, opened Aug. 11.
The 8,000 square foot building is located at 1305 Greta Lane, behind Tractor Supply Co.
