The newly-formed Columbus Choral Society will present its first concert Sunday, Nov. 15, in the First United Methodist Church Artz Fellowship Hall located at the corner of College Street and Sixth Street South in Columbus.
The 2:30 p.m. program titled “From Renaissance to Modern” will provide an impressive start for the chorale, whose 35 members represent communities throughout the Golden Triangle area.
“We”ve been working very hard since rehearsals began in mid-September, and we”re very excited about the concert,” said Amy King, a member of the Society.
Under the direction of Doug Browning and accompanied by Nancy Kennedy, the group will perform a diverse repertoire, including compositions by John Rutter and Gabriel Fuaré, madrigals of the Renaissance period and gospel from a more modern musical era.
“A lot of people associate choral music with the classical type,” said King. “But this program is a sample of all types of choral music. There is sure to be something in there for everyone to enjoy.”
The concert is free to attend, although all donations to the new program are greatly appreciated. The public is encouraged to remain afterward for a reception. For more information, contact First United Methodist Church at 662-328-5252.
