TUPELO -- Matthew Esquivel scored four goals in three games this weekend to help the Columbus High School boys soccer team win two of three games in the Tupelo Tournament.
Esquivel scored both goals in a 2-1 victory against Saltillo on Friday, scored the only goal in a 6-1 loss to Corinth on Saturday and scored scored a goal in a 3-0 victory against Center Hill on Saturday.
Sevascian Vasquez led Columbus (3-2-1) with two goals against Center Hill.
n Columbus girls lose three games: At Tupelo, the Lady Falcons lost all three games they played in the Tupelo Tournament.
Columbus (1-5) lost to Saltillo 9-1 on Friday and to Corinth 5-1 and to Center Hill 4-0 on Saturday.
Tamber Lee scored against Saltillo and Margo Friloux scored against Corinth for the Lady Falcons.
n Caledonia girls win one of three: At Tupelo, the Lady Confederates won a game Friday and lost two Saturday in the Tupelo Tournament.
Caledonia (2-2) beat New Albany 3-1 on Friday and lost 2-0 to Corinth and Center Hill on Saturday.
Lindsey Burton, Darby Williams and Kayla Studdard scored for the Lady Confederates against New Albany.
n Caledonia boys lose three games: At Tupelo, the Confederates scored only one goal in losing all three of their games in the Tupelo Tournament.
Brandon Webber scored the only goal in a 4-1 loss to New Albany on Friday. DeSoto Central and Corinth sut out Caleedonia 2-0 and 3-0, respectively, on Saturday.
n Starkville girls win two in sudden death: At Tupelo, the Lady Yellow Jackets won two games on penalty kicks in sudden death in the Tupelo Tournament.
Christine Mazzola scored both penalty kicks for Starkville (2-1), which beat Horn Lake 1-0 on Friday and DeSoto Central 1-0 on Saturday.
Starkville goalkeeper Raevonne Shoemaker kept Horn Lake and DeSoto Central from scoring in sudden death.
Starkville also played Pontotoc on Saturday and suffered a 1-0 loss.
n New Hope 5, MSMS 0 (G): At Columbus, Sarah Hern had two goals and an assist, and Effie Morrison had a goal and two assists to lead the Lady Trojans (1-1) past Mississippi School for Math and Science.
Morrison, Amber Cheezum, and Reagan Hern also scored for New Hope. Morgan Hardin added an assist.
Brandi Brantley made three saves in the first half, while Hillari Forrester had eight saves in the second half.
The MSMS boys beat New Hope 2-1. Blake King scored for the Trojans (0-2).
n Columbus 67, Newton 51: At Columbus, the Falcons (1-2) earned their first win of the season Friday night.
Columbus pulled away in the second half after the score was tied 37-37 at the intermission. The Falcons outscored the Tigers 13-7 in the third quarter and 17-7 in the fourth quarter.
Bobby Wrench led Columbus with 23 points, Akeem Toppin had 20, and Deontae Jethrow had 14.
The leading scorers for Newton were Dwayne Bingham with 14 points and Moses Oliphant with 13.
The next game for Columbus is Tuesday against East Oktibbeha.
n Immanuel 56, Tupelo Christian 39: At Steens, junior center Justin James scored 19 points, grabbed 18 rebounds, and blocked four shots to lead Immanuel on Friday.
Also for Immanuel (2-1), Wade Lee scored 13 points and had 10 rebounds, Ross Moore scored 14 points, and Christian Good scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Chris Forrester led Tupelo Christian with 13 points, while Austin Lloyd had 11.
The Rams led 17-7, 26-14, and 38-20 at the quarter breaks.
Immanuel also won the junior varsity game 33-26. Josh Danzler led the Rams with 18 points and 14 rebounds, and K.C. Cunningham had nine points.
n Immanuel 35, MSMS 34, OT: At Steens: Nyki Baudoin hit a 3-pointer with 49 seconds left in overtime to give the Lady Rans the lead for good.
Buadoin had five points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.
Katy-Whitten Davidson had eight points. Her layup at the end of regulation forced overtime.
Megan Cooper had eight points, and Bailey Edwards added six points and five rebounds for the Lady Rams.
