Plans are still intact for Columbus to have “A Hometown Christmas” tonight, according to Main Street Columbus Director Amber Murphree Brislin.
“A Hometown Christmas” is the theme of this year”s annual parade.
The parade is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. The Columbus area experienced light rain showers this morning, and rain is in the forecast for tonight.
“We”ve said we”re going to have it rain or shine, unless it is something unsafe with the weather. If something happens with the weather, and we have to change, we will let people know on (WCBI”s) 5 o” clock newscast,” Brislin said.
The parade lineup starts at 5 p.m., at the Hitching Lot Farmers Market at Second Avenue and Second Street North. Brislin said parade entrants will have to enter the farmers” market from Highway 82 instead of Highway 45 North.
“It will be closed. Also, parade entrants will not be given numbers. The earlier you arrive, the closer to the front you will be,” she said.
From the farmers” market, the parade will continue east on Main Street to 14th Street, then turn right on 14th to College Street. The procession will then go west on College Street and take a right on Fifth Street South, then take a left back on Second Avenue North back to the farmers” market.
Brislin said more the parade will have more than 100 entries, and will be led by the grand marshal, Frances Jutman.
“This is the most entries the parade has had since Main Street Columbus has been sponsoring the Christmas parade,” she said. Main Street has sponsored the parade for the past three years; it was previously sponsored by the Pilot Club of Columbus.
