The new multipurpose gymnasium in the Starkville Sportsplex building on Lynn Lane has a capacity of nearly 1,000 people.
Organizers of the Columbus and Starkville Tea Party groups expect crowds at a town hall meeting Saturday in the gymnasium to approach that capacity.
“I wouldn”t be surprised if it fills up,” said Robert J. Allen, cofounder of the Starkville Tea Party and one of the event”s organizers. “Everywhere we go, everywhere we look, people are enthusiastic about this. They”re angry and scared about what”s happening to their country. They support efforts like this.”
“The interest is so big and the concern is so big that I expect there to be a huge turnout in Starkville,” Allen added.
The event begins at 10 a.m. and is expected to last until 11:30 a.m. Organizers expect contingents from Columbus, Tupelo and Jackson to attend.
The main speaker will be Fox News political analyst Angela McGlowan. Dr. Ken Ley, a surgical oncologist from Jackson, and other speakers also will speak to the public about legislation and issues concerning health care, religious freedom, immigration, voter fraud, excessive spending, national debt and other issues. The meeting also will give the public a chance to ask questions of the speakers.
Since Tea Parties began springing up around the country, Allen said he has witnessed firsthand people taking action who normally wouldn”t get involved in the political process. And that”s what he likes to see.
“The Tea Party is full of people that have never done anything political before,” Allen said. “It is so bad out there right now that people who haven”t even been paying attention to politics are seeing it and they”re worried. People know we”re in trouble. It”s not just us. It”s our grandkids, it”s our loved-ones and it”s our country.”
“We”re being transformed into a country that we don”t want and didn”t grew up in,” he continued. “Our kids and our grandkids aren”t going to be able to grow up in the same country we grew up in if we let this continue.”
The meeting is free to the public. The Sportsplex is located at 405 Lynn Lane, Starkville.
