GORDO, Ala. — Nick Stewart made six 3-point field goals and scored 24 points Saturday to lead the Pickens County Tornadoes past Gordo 69-59 in the championship game of the Pickens County Tournament.
The win was the 12th in a row for Pickens County (18-1).
Also scoring in double figures for Pickens County was Deion Curry with 17 points.
Nick Polstick led Gordo with a game-high 27 points.
Stewart, Curry and Lakeithric Hall of Pickens County made the all-tournament team.
n Pickens County 52, Gordo 30 (G): At Gordo, Ala., the Lady Tornadoes avenged an earlier season loss by beating Gordo in the championship game of the Pickens County Tournament.
Pickens County (11-5), which won its fifth game in a row, was led by Kevauna Sterling with 16 points, Miriah Gooden with 15 points, Maryauna Sterling with 11 points and Kelsey Stewart with eight points and 10 rebounds.
Cassandra Smith led Gordo with eight points.
Kervauna Sterling was the tournament MVP and Maryauna Sterling and Stewart also made the all-tournament team.
n Sulligent 64, Lamar County 54 (B): At Sulligent, Ala., the Blue Devils beat the Bulldogs for the third time this season in winning the Lamar County Tournament.
Sulligent (16-7) was paced by Ishmael Riggins with 19 points, Peter Swanigan with 15 and Dakota Carruth with nine.
Lamar County was led in scoring by Jimmy Lann with 112 point, Will Franks with 10 and Marquis Plant with eight.
n Heritage Academy 58, Hamilton 41 (B): At Hamilton, Hunter Brown and Cole Walker each scored 13 points Saturday to lead the Patriots past the Lions.
Also scoring in double figures for Heritage (15-8) was Bobby McGrath with 10 points.
The leading scorer for Hamilton was Ben Seely with 17 points.
n Heritage Academy 58, Hamilton 18 (G): At Hamilton, Madison Ford scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Lady Patriots past the Lady Lions.
Christibeth Nelson scored nine points for Heritage (9-16).
The high scorer for Hamilton was Drew Cockerham with six points.
n Jackson Academy 62, Heritage Academy 35 (B): At Jackson, Hunter Brown scored nine points and Will West scored eight in a losing cause for the Patriots on Friday.
n Jackson Academy 46, Heritage Academy 39 (G): At Jackson, the Lady Patriots came up short in an overtime loss to Jackson Academy.
Heritage Academy was led by Madison Ford with 17 points and Christibeth Nelson with nine.
n Louisville 59, Caledonia 50 (G): At Caledonia, Suriah Blanch scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in a losing cause for the Lady Confederates.
Sarah Guess scored 11 points for Caledonia.
n Calhoun Academy 53, Central Academy 50 (G): At Calhoun City, the Lady Vikings came up short Friday in their final game by losing to Calhoun Academy.
Central Academy (10-9) was led by Blake Rigdon with 14 points, Corey Dawkins with 12 and Marion Colvin with 11.
Central led 19-15 at halftime, but was outscored 17-12 in the third quarter and 21-19 in the fourth.
n Pickens Academy 67, Escambia Academy 47 (B): At Carrollton, Ala., Jacob Acker scored a game-high 20 points Friday night to lead the Pirates to an AISA Class 2A, Region 2 victory.
Also scoring in double figures for Pickens Academy (12-8, 6-5 region) were Grey Hankins with 14 points and Michael Potts with 10.
Pickens Academy”s next game is Tuesday at Victory Christian, in Columbus.
n Pickens Academy 52, Escambia Academy 47 (G): At Carrollton, Ala., the Lady Pirates clincched the AISA Class 2A, Region 2 regular season championship Friday by beating Escambia Academy.
Callie Minor scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Lady Pirates to the win.
Catherine Johnson had 11 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists for Pickens Academy (19-3, 11-0 region).
n Pickens Academy 56, Marengo Academy 44 (B): At Carrrollton, Ala., Acker poured in a game-high 31 points Thursday night to lead the Pirates to a region win.
Acker was followed in scoring by Hankins with nine points and Potts with eight.
n Pickens County 49, Isabella 23 (G): At Reform, Ala., Miriah Gooden scored 21 points Friday night to lead the Lady Tornadoes to an AHSAA Class 2A, Area 4 win.
Also scoring in double figures for Pickens County (10-5, 4-2 area) was Maryauna Sterling with 10 points.
