MACON — Noxubee County authorities are awaiting a final autopsy result before drawing conclusions in the death of three county residents.
Courtney Shields, 21, of Shuqualak; and Wendy Boykin, 29, and Michael Boykin, 12, both county residents, were all discovered shot to death Jan. 19 in Boykin”s home at 11926 Highway 14 W.
Noxubee County Sheriff”s Office chief deputy Terry Grassaree said today investigators are waiting on Shields” autopsy results before determining if the incident was a murder-suicide. Shields was Wendy Boykin”s ex-boyfriend.
“It”s just going to tell us more about his manner. What kind of confusion he had,” said Grassaree of Shields” autopsy results.
He says the autopsy results will include toxicology reports to notify investigators of any substances or drugs in Shields” system at the time of the killings. Grassaree says a determination on the killings will follow.
“You can have an idea what you”re looking at, but you won”t know until (an autopsy) has happened on everyone. Before we make a ruling we need what the medical examiner can tell us about Mr. Shields,” he said.
Wendy Boykin was shot multiple times with a .22 rifle and a .410 shotgun. Michael Boykin was shot several times with the .22 rifle. Shields was killed by a .410 shotgun blast to the head.
Shields” pickup truck was found parked half a mile from Boykin”s home at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Wendy Boykin had called the NCSO Jan. 18 to report Shields had threatened her life.
