Barefield named 2011 Lowndes Junior Miss

The Lowndes County Junior Miss Program has awarded $3,650 in college scholarships to deserving high school juniors in Lowndes County. In a program at Joe Cook Elementary Fine Arts Magnet School Jan. 23 Meredith Barefield, a junior at New Hope High School was chosen as the 2011 Lowndes County Junior Miss, succeeding Rachel Burttram. Meredith was also a scholarship award winner in the Interview, Fitness and Self Expression categories.  

 

Rachel Stanback of Columbus High School was chosen as first runner-up and the recipient of Interview, Scholastic and Self Expression scholarship awards. Leslie Ferguson of Heritage Academy was the recipient of scholarship awards in Talent, Fitness and the "Be Your Best Self" essay. LaChardonnay Johnson of Caledonia High School was also a Talent scholarship award winner. Meg Coleff of New Hope High School was presented the "Spirit of Junior Miss" scholarship award.  

 

Barefield, the daughter of Curtis and Sarah Barefield, will represent Lowndes County in Mississippi''s Junior Miss Program in Meridian in July. Mississippi''s program gives girls who are juniors in high school the opportunity to compete for college scholarships in the categories of Interview, Talent, Scholastic Achievement, Fitness and Self Expression.
