The Pilot Club of Columbus is currently taking applications for the Sara P. Lawrence Memorial Scholarship to Mississippi University for Women. This $1,000 scholarship is given annually to a Lowndes County graduate who will be an entering freshman in the fall of 2010.
The scholarship program was established in 1950 in memory of the 1944 club president, Sara Lawrence, who was an avid supporter of education and encouraged support of the university.
Application forms have been mailed to all high schools in Lowndes County. Seniors are encouraged to contact their school counselor for more information. Postmark deadline for the completed forms is April 1, 2010. Forms may also be obtained by contacting Margie Lease at 662-241-4620 or 662-574-1207, or any Pilot Club member.
The Pilot Club is an international organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life in local communities around the world. Chartered in 1041, the club”s projects include Lifeline, R.I.D.E.S. scholarships, assistance to the ACT Center, Trinity Place Retirement Center and the Salvation Army, provides food baskets for the needy and sponsors the Caledonia Anchor Club.
