Tiffany Craven will see some time behind bars for her role in an incident involving stealing a vehicle last fall, and leaving a male companion on the side of the road.
Craven, 24, of 195 Nichols Bend Road in Columbus, was sentenced Thursday to serve five years for a charge of grand larceny.
She appeared in court for a revocation hearing for a 2007 charge of receiving stolen property, said Carrie A. Jourdan, a Columbus attorney representing Craven.
“When she was arrested in September, she violated her probation on the charge of receiving stolen property,” Jourdan said.
Jourdan said Craven pleaded guilty to one charge of grand larceny, and has been sentenced to serve five years with the Mississippi Department of Corrections. The other grand larceny charge was retired to the files.
“That is a common thing to happen to have a file retired after pleading guilty to the other grand larceny charge,” Jourdan said.
Jourdan added Craven is scheduled to be taken to a correctional facility in Pearl for processing and to serve this sentence, which is supposed to run concurrently with the receiving stolen property charge.
“Judge (Jim) Kitchens accepted her plea on the original charge of receiving stolen property,” Jourdan said.
Craven was arrested in September by the Columbus Police Department on two counts of felony taking of a vehicle and one count of DUI following incidents at Porter Lounge on Highway 69.
Officers were dispatched to the bar the night of Sept. 12, 2009 after a female complainant reported Craven and a male companion drove off in her gray 1998 Toyota.
As they were traveling on Highway 82, reportedly an argument ensued between Craven and the companion. As Craven drove off, the companion exited the vehicle wearing only a pair of boxer shorts.
