OXFORD — Prosecutors say a former West Point police officer has been ordered to serve two years and three months in federal prison for his part in a scheme to embezzle money from a crime-fighting fund he oversaw.
U.S. District Judge Michael P. Mills also ordered 38-year-old Boone Lairy to pay restitution of $27,850 to the Golden Triangle Crimestoppers Fund.
Lairy was found guilty in July of conspiring to defraud and embezzling money.
The U.S. attorney”s office and the FBI say Lairy and others would make up tips to report to the crime-fighting group, and a coconspirator would receive a code from Lairy to claim money for the fake information. The fund lost more than $29,000.
Lairy was sentenced Thursday and was ordered to report to prison April 26.
