Boxing at Trotter -- The Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau, Miller''s Boxing, of Columbus, and Skyy Gym, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., present a night of professional boxing and a headliner bout between Olympic boxer Deontay Wilder, of Tuscaloosa, bronze medalist at the 2008 Beijing games, and Kentucky''s Shannon Gray. Boxing action begins at 7 p.m. at the Trotter Convention Center. General admission tickets are $25 at the door, if available. Civil War re-enactors -- The First Mississippi Light Artillery Turner''s Battery will conduct drills and display an original Union cannon used in the Battle of Vicksburg in 1863 on the grounds of the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library, 314 Seventh St. N., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The educational family-friendly event is in conjunction with the "Forever Free" exhibit located on the second floor of the library through March 20. Saturday at the Refuge -- The Friends of the Noxubee Refuge invite parents to bring their children to a free Bluebird workshop from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Refuge Visitor Center, located south of Starkville. Participants will learn about the Eastern Bluebird, see a video and build a bluebird box to take home. Contact the Refuge at 662-323-5548 for reservations, directions and more information. 

 


Blues Night at the RAC -- Past Living Blues Artist of the Year Willie King and friends return to the Omnova Theater in the Rosenzweig Arts Center, 501 Main St., at 7 p.m. Those who had tickets to the show canceled in January due to illness receive free admission. For all others, tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door, if available. Purchase tickets at the RAC, or contact the Arts Council at 662-328-2787.  

 


Skylighters Canteen Ballroom Affair -- The Starkville-Mississippi State University Symphony Association presents this evening of dance, food and 1940s-era entertainment at the Colvard Student Union Ballroom on the MSU campus from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets for the symphony fundraiser are $50 per person, available from symphony board members or by contacting organizers at 662-323-4142.

"Everything Garden Expo" -- The Starkville Area Arts Council and Mississippi State University present this comprehensive garden expo with speakers, vendors, seminars and children''s activities at the Mississippi Horse Park, 716 E. Poorhouse Road, Starkville. Doors will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5; children 7 and younger are admitted free.
