STARKVILLE -- Developers of the proposed CottonMill Marketplace project in Starkville will hold a public meeting later this month to discuss the development.
The meeting will take place March 24, from 6-8 p.m., at the new Hilton Garden Inn Hotel on Highway 12. Developers will make a presentation and answer questions from the public.
Because of the enormity of the project, city residents and officials for months have called on developers Comvest Properties and Nicholas Properties to hold a town hall-style meeting where they could raise questions and concerns.
The proposed CottonMill site adjoins Highway 12 between Russell Street and Spring Street. The city''s Board of Aldermen already approved the first phase of the project, which allows developers to begin grading and infrastructure work on the property.
A portion of the property is home to the Cooley Building, which is used by Mississippi State University''s facilities management department for storage and warehouse space, but also houses business offices, shops and management personnel, among other things. The developers plan to turn the Cooley Building into a conference center with an adjoining hotel.
The CottonMill project ultimately will feature two major anchor stores, though the names of possible tenants haven''t been released. A movie theater also is planned, along with a significant amount of retail space, offices and condominiums.
