Letters: Cemetery thieves

April 14, 2010 9:39:00 AM

I am doing something that I have never done before, writing a letter to the editor.

Easter Sunday, Tabernacle United Methodist Church held their annual Sun Rise Service. As part of the decoration for this, they asked members and those who have family ties to Tabernacle to purchase lilies for use during the service. Following the service, those who purchased lilies could take them to the graves of loved ones or give them to friends.

I placed three lilies on the graves of my father, sister, and mother; whose birthday would have been April 6. Twenty-two other lilies were placed on graves of loved ones by church members. By early Sunday afternoon the cemetery was stripped of every lily. This is not the first time it has happened and each time that it does, I get angrier.

I hope that whoever took the flowers realize just what a contemptible act they committed. I also hope that when they look in a mirror they can see themselves as the despicable people that they are. Rest assured they will have to answer for their actions.

I hope that God will have mercy on them.
