MACON — The Central Academy Vikings scored the first three runs of the game and held on to beat Hebron Christian 3-2 in a Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class A, District 3 game Friday.
Central Academy (8-5, 8-2 district) scored two runs in the first inning on a two-run double by Ferris McGuire and one run in the second on a single by Trevor Eaves.
With the win, Central Academy forced a three-way tie for first place in the district and earned the No. 2 seed in the MAIS Class A state playoffs as a result of a tie-breaker. The Vikings will host Humphreys Academy in the opening round of the playoffs Tuesday and play at Humphreys in Belzoni on Friday.
Heebron Christian earned the No. 1 seed and will play at Benton Academy on Tuesday and host Benton on Friday.
The Vikings won despite being limited to three hits. After Eaves” hit, the Vikings went 12-up and 12 down against Hebron Christian pitcher Dylan Proisock.
Central Academy held off Hebron Christian, which scored one run in the third inning and one in the seventh.
The Vikings got out bases loaded jams in the second and seventh innings to escape with the win.
Hunter Campbell (6-2) was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits and striking out seven in going the distance.
Hebron Christian had two singles by Blake Hill and singles by Proisock, J.D. Edwards and Marquez Robinson.
Proisock suffered the loss, allowing no earned runs and striking out four in six innings.
Central Academy also won the junior varsity game 10-4. Bill Dawkins hit a three-run homer and Colby Robbins earned a complete-game victory.
n Immanuel Christian 8, Kemper Academy 7: At Steens, the Rams rallied in their last at-bat to end their season on a winning note.
Immanuel (4-15) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally from a 7-4 deficit.
Ross Moore tied the score 7-7 with a three-run triple and then scored the winning run on an error.
Other leading hitters for Immanuel were Jeremy Davidson and Christian Good with two singles and an RBI each, and Justin James with an RBI single.
Good was the starting pitcher and he struck out 10 batters in 3 2/3 innings. Brandon Westover (2-4) was the winning pitcher in relief, striking out four in 2 1/3 innings.
n Pickens Academy 2, Southern Academy 0: At Greensboro, Ala., Chase Davidson scattered four hits and struck out 15 batters to pitch the Pirates to a win Friday.
The win improved Davidson”s record to 6-1.
Pickens Academy (13-4) scored in the second inning on an RBI double by Tyler Vails and in the third when Casey Jones stole third and scored on a throwing error on the play.
Kirk Lewis had a single for Pickens Academy.
