CALEDONIA — The Choctaw County High School football team racked up 281 rushing yards Friday night in a 34-0 victory against Caledonia in Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) game.
The Chargers (3-1) turned to 11 backs in a game that featured two Wing-T rushing attacks.
Austin Telano rushed for 59 yards and two touchdowns. Laterrion McBride had a team-high 61 yards and another score. Kaleb Nichols had the other rushing touchdown.
Telano was 3-for-8 for 65 yards with a touchdown. Telano hit Tyler Holman on a 17-yard touchdown pass.
The Choctaw County defense forced turnovers. Austin Fulgham had an interception, while Cameron Miller and Tanner Threadgill had fumble recoveries.
Caledonia (0-3) will play host to Byhalia (1-2) on Friday night.
n Leake County 12, West Lowndes 8: At Columbus, three turnovers proved costly as the Panthers dropped their MHSAA Class 1A, Region 3 opener at home.
The teams were involved in a scuffle outside of the West Lowndes locker room after the game. Law enforcement wasn’t called to the scene.
In the second quarter, West Lowndes twice turned the ball over on fumbles inside the Leake County 10-yard line. In the third quarter, an interception denied another red zone trip.
Donte Hudson’s second rushing touchdown placed Leake County (3-1, 1-0) on top 12-0 early in the fourth quarter.
The lone touchdown for West Lowndes (1-2, 0-1) came with less than six minutes remaining on a pass from Quay Sanders to Ki’Kwon Cork. Quinshawn Lucious had the two-point conversion.
Lucious rushed for 110 yards and had 100 yards receiving.
West Lowndes will play Friday night at Hamilton (1-3, 0-1) for its second region game.
n Pontotoc 44, Aberdeen 24: At Pontotoc, the heavyweight showdown between undefeated teams went the way of the Warriors.
Pontotoc (4-0) won in large part due to nine takeaways. The Warriors scored 27 points off the turnovers. They also forced seven sacks.
The first touchdown for Aberdeen (3-1) came on a 1-yard run by Dajoun Dobbs with 4 minutes, 28 seconds left in the half. That score cut into a deficit as Aberdeen trailed 17-8 at halftime after a two-point conversion run from Terrance Rowe.
Pontotoc needed less than two minutes of the third quarter to increase the lead. However, the Bulldogs answered on a 90-yard kickoff return by Branden Williams and Fred Fields’ two-point conversion.
Aberdeen had its final score in the closing minutes when Terrance Rowe caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Fields. Dobbs had the conversion run.
Senior safety Trevor Morgan wreaked the most havoc for Pontotoc defense with three interceptions. Jermarkus Whitefield led the rushing attack with 18 carries for 107 yards. Leading rusher Immanuel Vance was held out as a precaution after an ankle injury.
n Nanih Waiya 53, Hamilton 6: At Nanih Waiya, the Lions were overwhelmed in their MHSAA Class 1A, Region 3 opener.
Toby Young scored the lone touchdown for Hamilton on a 7-yard run.
Hamilton will play host to West Lowndes (1-2, 0-1) on Friday night in another region game.
