VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. -- The South Lamar High School fast-pitch softball team won four games to make it to the championship game and finished as the runner-up in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class A North Central Regional Tournament.
South Lamar beat Appalachian 16-0 in three innings and lost 11-3 to Ragland on Friday and then defeated Jefferson Christian 2-0, Spring Garden 3-1, and Parrish 3-2 before losing to Ragland 12-0 in five innings in the championship game Saturday.
The Lady Stallions earned a berth in the Class A State Tournament at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Ala., and will play Pleasant Home at 9 a.m. Thursday.
n South Lamar 16, Appalachian 0: Kendra Wilson allowed only one hit and struck out six in its first game of the tournament.
Karoline Holsonback had a double and single to lead the Lady Stallions.
n Ragland 11, South Lamar 3: The Lady Stallions dropped to the losers bracket with a loss.
Holsonback had another double and single, and Laken Hancock had a triple to lead the Lady Stallions.
n South Lamar 2, Jefferson Christian 0: Wilson established a career high with 15 strikeouts and allowed four hits.
South Lamar scored both of its runs in the sixth inning. Peyton Moss reached on an error that scored Holsonback, and Katlyn Bryant had a single that scored Hannah Cox.
Cox had three singles and Jessica Wheat had two.
n South Lamar 3, Spring Garden 1: Kacy Holsonback and Wilson had two singles each to pace the Lady Stallions.
Hancock was the winning pitcher in relief, allowing four hits and recording four strikeouts.
n South Lamar 3, Parrish 2: Sam Trull tripled home Kacy Holsonback in the seventh to lift the Lady Stallions.
Trull had a triple and Hancock had a double and two singles.
Wilson was the winning pitcher in relief of Hancock.
n Ragland 12, South Lamar 0: South Lamar''s bid for the regional championship came ended in their fourth game of the day.
Kacy Holsonback had two singles.
