STARKVILLE -- The Starkville Police Department arrested three suspects Monday in connection with a handful of burglaries over the past month and now give credit for the busts to an unlikely source -- one of the suspect''s parents.
The juvenile suspect''s mother voluntarily brought her son to the Starkville police station after she found items in their home she believed to be stolen, SPD Sgt. Shawn Word said. After talking with the juvenile, police linked him to four separate burglaries in the city, Word said.
The break-ins occurred at apartments along Helen Circle, just off Lynn Lane.
Police then executed a search warrant on the home of a second teenager, where they found more items believed to be stolen. Both teens were charged as juveniles, Word said.
A third man, 29-year-old Destiny Moore, also was arrested Monday after police executed a search warrant at his residence and found more stolen items. Moore faces two counts of burglary, Word said.
Starkville police have arrested several suspects for burglary in recent months in their attempts to thwart a rash of vehicle and residential break-ins plaguing the city.
Burglaries picked up in the fall and continued to be a problem over the winter, but the numbers have since subsided as police have made arrests in several cases, Word said.
