Columbus Police Department has released the name and photo of a person of interest in a shooting that left one man dead at Motel 6 Friday morning.
Investigators are searching for Johnathan Lee Majors II, of 300 S. Lehmberg Road, Apt. 135, in connection with the shooting, according to a CPD press release.
City public information officer Joe Dillon confirmed police had not located Majors by press time.
Police were called to the motel on Highway 45 just after midnight in response to a shooting. There they found the victim, Michael Garth, 27, outside the building. Garth died at the scene.
Lowndes County Coroner confirmed the victim’s body will be sent to Jackson for autopsy, but said due to the holiday schedule he did not know when an autopsy would be actually be performed.
Friday morning, authorities said investigators believe the victim may have been killed by someone he knew.
A Facebook Live video taken at the crime scene after the shooting shows people standing around the Waffle House. One woman is yelling: “My brother’s dead! My brother’s dead! … Someone shot my brother in his stomach!”

Garth’s wife, Kyandra, has set up a GoFundMe account seeking help with expenses due to her husband’s loss. She says the victim left behind three children.
