We understand there is a request for public input on the naming of the new sports complex.
We feel serious consideration should be given to naming the complex in honor of Leslie Frazier. Frazier, one of the premier NFL players of the last 30 years has been given scant attention in Columbus, the place of his birth and raising. This is especially true of the media.
In recent years we have honored, rightfully, Columbus natives Walter "Red" Barber, Henry Armstrong and others. Now, it is time to honor Leslie Frazier and to honor him while he is alive and able to appreciate recognition from his native town and state.
Leslie Frazier starred at Alcorn State, played for the 1985 Super Bowl Champion Chicago Bears (teammate of Mississippian Walter Payton, the greatest running back ever), is presently the defensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings and was named to John Madden''s all time team. He is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has been during his entire playing and coaching career.
We submit that no athlete who played on the fields of Columbus even comes close to Frazier.
Let''s name the complex Leslie Frazier Park.
