My heart is saddened that the city and county have not come to an agreement on the 2-percent tourism tax. Now it appears that the plan is to do away with the Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau, the organization that has used the tourism tax so expertly to bring visitors to our area. The economic impact of tourism in Columbus and Lowndes County last year was $116 million.
I am hopeful our officials will rethink the tourism tax issue and come together for our citizens by keeping the CCVB intact .
Please, please do not let us down.
