On breaking up, MLK and highway safety
This advice is too late for many, but I hope there are many more who take advantage of it. I’m posing this towards guys but the ladies can benefit as well.
Guys, if your girlfriend or wife wants to leave you, it’s YOUR fault, not hers. So, man up and don’t go off the deep end and do something you’ll regret later. I speak from experience.
When my ex-wife decided to end our marriage, I blamed her and said some things that were not only wrong, but uncalled for. I was hurt, angry and immature. I have tried to apologize to her over the years without success. I can’t really say I blame her.
If your wife/girlfriend wants out, be a man and help her to leave as nicely as possible. No shouting, no harsh words and no threats are needed, or wanted.
You may be hurting, but that’s no excuse to hurt her in return for what’s your fault anyway. If any of you know my ex-wife tell her I’m sorry. I wanted to make her happy, and I wasn’t the man to do that.
In Leonard Pitts’ column he writes on the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. My only problem with that is that far too many blacks, and whites, as well, do not heed King’s advice today. Instead of rioting and demanding “justice” when their version of “justice” is really revenge, more blacks who like to celebrate King’s birthday should try to honor the man’s memory by trying to do as he preached. This country would be a lot more peaceful.
Folks, those STOP signs at road and highway intersections, are there for a reason. It’s too tempting to roll up to a stop sign and glance both ways, see nothing, and proceed through the intersection.
The post between the windshield and the door windows can “hide” an 18-wheeler, if you don’t stop and the timing’s just right. I’ve made that mistake myself a few times, but I’ve been lucky to have never had a wreck.
Please learn a lesson from the recent tragedy at the intersection of Highway 45 and Land Road. Don’t let the deaths of two young boys and their grandmother be in vain.
