Authorities have confirmed to The Dispatch they are aware of social media threats against New Hope schools.
The threats were posted to Facebook Sunday night, warning students and teachers to stay home Monday. Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office investigators have alerted the FBI and are looking into the threats.
The schools have extra security present today, LCSO Chief Deputy Marc Miley said.
While no threats have been made against Columbus schools, Columbus Mayor Robert Smith said he received calls from concerned parents who saw the Facebook post. He has worked with Columbus Police Department to add additional security to schools in Columbus Municipal School District for the rest of the year.
