A Starkville man is facing two felony charges in the wake of a wreck that left one person dead and three others injured.
Starkville Police Department charged 61-year-old Jimmy Andrew Sims with manslaughter-culpable negligence and aggravated assault Monday.
According to an affidavit The Dispatch obtained from Starkville municipal court, Sims used his vehicle “previously known to be faulty in such a way that caused a traffic accident.”
The four-vehicle crash, which happened at about 10:45 a.m. March 12 on Lampkin Street between South Montgomery and Russell streets, resulted in the death of 47-year-old Tonya Graham. Graham, of Cedarbluff in Clay County, died at 11:30 a.m. March 13 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Three other people, including a juvenile, were sent to OCH Regional Medical Center after the crash and released after treatment. Three of the four vehicles in the crash were occupied.
SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady confirmed the aggravated assault charge is for injuries the juvenile, who was in the same vehicle as Graham, sustained.
Officers booked Sims in Oktibbeha County Jail Monday. He was released on $35,000 bond Monday evening, according to jail personnel. Sims’ bond was set at $10,000 for the aggravated assault charge and $25,000 for the manslaughter charge.
