The Budweiser Clydesdales will visit Columbus Wednesday evening with a planned trip to Starkville the following day.
Main Street Columbus Director Barbara Bigelow said the famous eight-horse hitch, along with the red beer wagon, will deliver a case of beer each to nine downtown restaurants beginning at 5 p.m. She encourages citizens to line the streets in front of those restaurants to get a close-up as the horses move through downtown.
Restaurants slated for delivery include: Harvey’s, Huck’s, Zachary’s, Thai by Thai, Sally’s Cafe in Catfish Alley, The Elbow Room, Old 82, The Princess Theatre and J Broussards.
After the deliveries, the Clydesdales will proceed to Leadership Plaza, where public viewing — complete with refreshments, entertainments and photo opportunities — will begin at 6 p.m.
On Thursday in Starkville, the Clydesdales will help kick off Super Bulldog Weekend in Starkville with a viewing at 5 p.m. at Fire Station Park before they make deliveries to Cotton District restaurants at 6 p.m.
Delivery stops in Starkville will include: Bulldog Burgers, Two Brothers, Bin 612, Stagger Inn, Drifters, Klassroom, Gringos and Fountain Bar.
Mitchell Distributing is partnering with Main Street Columbus, Columbus Air Force Base and the Greater Starkville Development Partnership for the events.
Budweiser first introduced the Clydesdales hitch as its symbol in 1933 following the repeal of Prohibition, according to the company website. The horses have appeared worldwide at parades and other events, on Super Bowl commercials and television broadcasts and at presidential inaugurations.
